Once in a Lifetime Adventure.

Imagine coming face-to-face with mountain gorillas – a soul-stirring experience found only in the gorilla parks of Uganda, Rwanda, and Congo. These encounters leave an indelible mark on your soul, offering memories that will last a lifetime.

Safeguarding Africa’s Great Apes

With populations dwindling due to deforestation and hunting, Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park and Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park stand as vital sanctuaries for these endangered creatures. Initiatives like primate research and gorilla trekking tourism are shifting the narrative, empowering local communities to champion conservation efforts.

The Gorilla Trekking Experience

Setting off into the dense rainforest, you’ll traverse rugged terrain, navigating through thick vegetation and steep inclines. While the treks are generally manageable for those with a basic level of fitness, being in good physical condition will enhance your comfort during the trek.

Experienced guides and trackers accompany trekkers throughout the journey. Porters are also available to help carry equipment and provide assistance as needed.

The trek varies from 30 minutes to about 4 hours, depending on factors such as terrain and the mobility of the gorilla group. Once you’ve located the gorilla family, you’ll usually spend 1 hour observing these incredible creatures.

Choosing the Best Time to do a Gorilla Trek

Gorilla trekking is a year-round activity. However, the dry seasons, from December to February and June to September, offer the most comfortable conditions for trekking. Rainfall is minimal, and the trails are more accessible. These dry seasons also coincide with lower vegetation density, improving visibility and increasing the likelihood of spotting gorilla families.

Gorilla Trekking Permits

The fees from permits contribute to gorilla conservation efforts, including habitat protection, anti-poaching measures, and community development projects. By obtaining a permit, you directly support these conservation initiatives. It’s essential to secure your permit well in advance, especially during peak seasons, as availability can be limited.

The fee for gorilla trekking permits can vary depending on the specific national park or area where you trek, ranging from $850 per person for a single permit.
